Golf weekend: +Family Fun+Shell Ogunu Golf club

One promise I made to myself was that I was going to make the most the most of my service year. I was going to be dedicated to giving my all during my service year, try new daring and adventurous things, register for writing classes, and do all those things that only exist in my head. Basically,  the goal during this time is to challenge myself and break free of any inhibitions I might have. An as luck would have it, my time in Warri so far has been adventurous.

This weekend provided the opportunity to do just that. A chance at something totally out of the norm for me.

My uncle is a big fan of golf and he visits the golf club twice or thrice a week. But this weekend he decided to turn it into a family outing. I was a bit apprehensive at first  when he invited us but then again I thought it'll make for something interesting to write about. So here I am, let's dive in shall we?

We got to the club at approximately 10am on Saturday morning. My first impression of the place was "Wow". I couldn't stop saying that as we drove to the parking lot. Unfortunately we couldn't go out on the course just yet because it was raining, so we proceeded to the lounge and watched as some enthusiastic golfers continued their game even in the rain.
We waited for a while before the rain subsided and we were escorted to the course by our instructor. My uncle the pro,  kept giving us pointers as we walked eagerly behind the instructor.

We warmed up with some stretches. Just to get loose and flexible. Then the instructor gave us the first lesson of getting the perfect swing. After a few horrible tries we finally got the hang of it.
Golf is a game of focus. You loose that and you loose your target. So it was really important that our swing was sure and purposeful. Getting the perfect swing and hitting the ball just right.

One by one we took are swings and finally it was my turn. I stepped up to the instructor as I eagerly showed him my swing. He was quite impressed as he turned to my uncle and said, "This one will be a quick learner." I am not going to deny it, my head swelled a little.

Anyways we got to play with the balls and you wouldn't believe the distance my swing was able to throw those little things. I was quite please with myself. Contrary to my performance I thought I was going to be a complete flop but I learned that day that you should never underestimate yourself, no matter how crippling the grip of fear is.

The training session lasted about an hour or two and at the end of it we were sore all over. We decided to call it a day as the weather started to turn again. We went back to the lounge, downed a couple drinks and then went home.

I have to say it was a good day and one I'd like to try over and over again. I'm quite the golf enthusiast now and we got registered for more lessons. So watch out guys, I might just be the next Tiger Woods.

Features of the Club

• A beautiful view. Thanks to the lush green grass and tall palm trees.

• A lake almost at the centre of the golf course.

• It has this majestic natural vibe to it that made me feel peace. It was truly amazing. I can't even describe how being there made me feel.

• A well stocked bar for people who like to drink. A beautiful restaurant with delicious cuisines to offer. The bar also has a TV where you can watch professional golfers do their thing.

• Clean restroom for players to clean up after they're done on the course.

• A pool and pool side bar. Perfect for sunbathing and just chilling.

It is a good place to take a step back and unwind after a very long week. If you're looking for a luxurious weekend, it is the place to be. Take some time off with family or friends and sip on some fine wine, bask in the invigorating sunlight, enjoy the beautiful view and most importantly play golf to your heart's content.

All in all it was a beautiful experience and I'm glad I got to do it with family. I can't wait to visit again. I hope you guys enjoyed this post and whenever you visit Warri I hope you get to visit and share in this wonderful experience.

The only downside to my fun is the cramps I'm currently experiencing but it was all worth it.
I wish you guys a lovely week ahead.

Thanks for visiting my blog again. See you next time.
